Protient was originally founded in 1998 on the basis of novel membrane technology. In 1999, Mountain Lake, MN was the first manufacturing facility acquired for the production of whey protein isolates.
2001, Juda, WI became the second whey protein facility to be acquired. At this facility the production of whey protein concentrates and powder lactose began.
2002, Protient became the first company in the US to introduce a commercial supply of whey crisps to the market.
2003, Norfolk, NE was acquired to produce whey proteins, lactose and milk protein concentrates.
2004, Protient became the first US producer of milk protein isolates (90% protein) at the Norfolk plant.
2005, Protient became an ABF Ingredients company.
2005, Protient embarked on a joint venture in Smithfield, UT to produce sweet whey powder and Lovington, NM to produce whey protein products.
2006, Protient acquired 100% ownership of the Springfield, MO nutritional packaging facility for the production of infant formula and sport nutrition products.
2007, Lovington, NM dissolution of joint venture. Sale of Faribault facility.
2008, Sale of Mt. Lake, MN facility to MSC. Smithfield, UT dissolution of joint venture and exit of Protient participation.
2008, Norfolk, NE plant was expanded to include a milk separator to produce cream and further enhance the milk protein concentrate and isolate capabilities.
2008, In progress R&D and Sensory LAB, expected completion date July 2008.
